Cookie policy

Every single thing this website stores on your device. There are three, the list is below in full, and none of them is an advertising cookie.

The short version

  • This site uses no analytics, no advertising pixels and no third-party scripts at all. Not Google Analytics, not a Meta pixel, not a session recorder, not an embedded map or video.
  • Three things are stored on your device. All three are set by this website itself, and all three are listed below.
  • Nothing optional is switched on unless you switch it on. There is no pre-ticked box anywhere, and rejecting takes exactly as many clicks as accepting.
  • You can change your mind at any time, on this page, with the button a little further down.

1. What a cookie is, and why this page is not only about cookies

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, which it can read back on your next visit. Browsers also offer other ways to store things — local storage, session storage — and the law treats them all the same. So this page covers everything stored on your device, whatever it is technically called.

The rule in the UK comes from the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations. It is simple: you need permission to store anything on somebody's device, unless the thing is strictly necessary to deliver what they asked for. Convenience is not necessity. So anything that is merely useful to us needs your yes first, and does not get set until you give it.

2. Everything this site stores

NameKindWhat it doesHow longConsent?
avent-consentFirst-party cookieRemembers the choice you made about this page, and the date you made it, so you are not asked every time and so we can show what you decided.182 days (about six months)Strictly necessary
avent-introSession storageHolds the number 1 to record that you have already seen the opening animation, so it does not replay on every page you look at.Until you close the tabStrictly necessary
avent_adminFirst-party cookieKeeps a member of Avent staff signed in to the private booking diary. It is a signed token with an expiry and holds no passcode. It is never set for a visitor.12 hoursStrictly necessary

A note on honesty about that second one. The opening animation flag is not needed to make the website function, so you could argue it is a preference rather than a necessity. We have classed it as strictly necessary on the grounds that it contains no information about you, cannot identify you, is deleted the moment you close the tab, and exists only to stop the site behaving in a way you would find broken. We would rather set out that reasoning than quietly leave it off the list.

3. What we do not use

No analytics. No advertising or retargeting pixels. No social media buttons that load code from a social network. No embedded fonts fetched from Google, no embedded maps, no embedded video players. The display typeface is served from this website.

You can check this rather than believe it. The site sends a Content-Security-Policy header that only allows scripts, styles, images, fonts and network connections to come from this website, with nothing from anywhere else permitted. Open your browser's developer tools, look at the network tab, and every single request will be to this domain.

The two switches in the notice are for the future, and they are real. Measurement and advertising are both off, and there is nothing in either category today. They are built so that if Avent ever do add a measurement tool or an advertising pixel, it cannot load unless you have said yes — rather than being added one afternoon with the banner left standing there as decoration. If that day comes, this table gains rows and the date at the top of this page changes.

4. Your choice, and changing it

You can also clear or block cookies in your browser. Every browser can do it, usually under Settings, then Privacy. Be aware that blocking everything will also clear the record of your choice here, so the notice will come back, and on many other websites it will break things like staying signed in.

  • Safari — Settings, then Privacy, on a Mac; Settings, then Safari, on an iPhone.
  • Chrome — Settings, then Privacy and security, then Third-party cookies.
  • Edge and Firefox — Settings, then Privacy.

5. When you leave this site

The buttons for WhatsApp and Instagram take you to WhatsApp and Instagram, which are run by Meta and set their own cookies under their own policies once you are there. The same goes for anywhere else you follow a link to. We have no control over that and no visibility of it, which is the other reason we would rather you rang us.

6. More

The privacy policy covers everything else: what we collect when you book, who it goes to, how long we keep it and the rights you have. For anything either page does not answer, email aventautomotive@outlook.com.
